Goat Island

 In the late 1700s the Island was once where a herd of goats were raised by an early pioneer and miller, John Stedman. After most of the herd was lost due to a bad winter, the island was renamed from Iris Island to Goat Island. Due to its prominent location and spectacular views of Niagara Falls, it has become a popular tourist destination. Goat Island's parkland became part of the Niagara Reservation State Park in 1885.
